CA Newspaper: Our State´s Gun
Control Laws Are In Jeopardy

A couple weeks ago the Supreme Court made a shocking (but welcomed) announcement: the high court would be hearing the first gun case in a decade. The last time the Supreme Court heard a gun-related case was back in 2008 when they ruled "the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home” in the landmark Heller decision. What´s interesting is the San Francisco Chronicle, a rather liberal newspaper in California, published an editorial admitting that the state´s

I am guilty of speaking badly of the new congresswoman from New York. She is obviously the product of failing educational systems unable to do anything but pump her full of fatuous self-esteem. (snip) But Sandy O has laid it out -- very briefly. She’s let the cat out of the Democratic bag. She and Sen. Edward Markey opened Pandora’s box this week and 70 prominent Democrats immediately signed on, including many of the recent presidential hopefuls.

The success of the State of the Union address is usually measured in standing ovations, but President Trump’s 2019 speech is best measured by how often Democrats stayed planted in their seats. The president challenged Americans to “choose greatness,” but the dour Democrats continued to choose resistance, forgetting that cameras documented every instance when they felt it inappropriate to celebrate the successes not just of this president but of the American people he serves. The effect was perhaps exaggerated by the decision of the Democratic women of Congress to dress in white

With speculation rampant over whether the Trump administration is going to invade Venezuela it is useful to review the American experience in Iraq. On the eve of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 the strategic perception of Saddam and US planners could not have been more divergent, according to a recently published 1,500 page, 2 volume Army War College survey of that conflict. (Links to volume 1 and volume 2). To America toppling Saddam was an attempt to fix the chaos which resulted in 9/11 and challenged the global world order. "The fight against al-Qaeda in Iraq

New fossil finds over the past few years have been forcing anthropologists to reexamine our evolutionary path to becoming human. Now the earliest modern human fossil ever found outside the continent of Africa is pushing back the date for when our ancestors left Africa. (Snip) The earliest humans, referred to as hominins by anthropologists, lived around six to seven million years ago in Africa. These early evolutionary ancestors are recognized as belonging to the human family mainly because their bones reveal clear signs of bipedalism: They walked on two feet.

The Democrats’ Identity Meltdown

Democrats need an identity-politics intervention. Having unleashed race, gender, sexual orientation and class as the defining issues of American politics, these furies are now consuming their authors. Where’s Barack Obama when Democrats need him? Every national Democrat of note is demanding that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam resign for appearing in blackface in 1984 and for offering different explanations for an offensive photo on his medical college yearbook page. But Mr. Northam is refusing to go. A second woman has now accused Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax of rape, this time at Duke University in 2000.

Memo to the honchos at the National Enquirer: if you are going to threaten one of the richest men in the world by saying that you have sexually explicit selfies of him and his girlfriend, don’t have your lawyer and top editor put the threats in writing. The rich guy might decide he can ride out a stolen dick pic or two, especially if he’s already announced that he’s getting divorced. “Something unusual happened to me yesterday,” Jeff Bezos, the founder and C.E.O. of Amazon, writes in a piece that appeared on Medium on Thursday evening.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was condemned Sunday by fellow Democrats after she accused a pro-Israel lobbying group of paying lawmakers in exchange for influence. The latest controversy engulfing the freshman lawmaker centered on tweets she sent reacting to journalist Glenn Greenwald criticizing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for threatening punishment against Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., over their criticisms of Israel. "It´s all about the Benjamins, baby," Omar said in one tweet, quoting a lyric from the 1997 song by rap artist Puff Daddy.

Ahead of a rally Monday in El Paso, Texas, to boost support for his proposed border wall, President Trump signaled that he is still mulling an executive order to fund the barrier if congressional negotiations break down.“President is on sound legal ground to declare a National Emergency. There have been 58 National Emergencies declared since the law was enacted in 1976, and 31 right now that are currently active, so this is hardly unprecedented,” Trump tweeted Sunday, citing Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), who has encouraged Trump to end the stalemate by using national emergency funds to build the wall

If you expected any diminution of media malpractice following the recent spate of fake news scandals, you were mistaken. Less than a month after wrecking what remained of their credibility by parroting a piece of fiction from BuzzFeed about a former Trump lawyer, and compounding that offense by running a fake story about a group of Catholic high school students, they have struck again. This time the target is Candace Owens, the young black conservative who has urged African-Americans to stop voting Democrat. Over the weekend, the media ran with a BuzzFeed hit piece depicting Owens as a Nazi apologist.

In December 2014, I had an abortion at 29 weeks, after my first baby was diagnosed with a brain abnormality called lissencephaly. The early diagnosis—lissencephaly is sometimes not diagnosed until after birth—meant her case was severe and her prognosis was grim: We could expect her to live for two to six years while suffering from frequent respiratory infections and intermittently choking on her own saliva. Her cognitive development would be arrested or even reversed by painful seizures. She might have been able to smile socially and/or track motion with her eyes, but maybe not.

I hate to say “I told you so,” but in the case of Elizabeth Warren I’m afraid I must. In October I warned Bay State voters that if re-elected, Sen. Warren would dump us for higher office faster than her pal Bernie Sanders blew through $300,000 — and the ozone — flying private jets last fall while screaming about a climate apocalypse. Now that Warren’s run for commander in chief is official, let’s take a peek inside her teepee and see what the 1/1024th Native American “chief” is offering. On Saturday she told the crowd,

In every presidential election cycle, there’s a sleeper — a candidate not expected to get far who catches fire. Sometimes that candidate goes all the way. Barack Obama and Donald Trump did. Other times the candidate falls short, but only after exceeding expectations and, to one degree of another, giving more heralded candidates a scare. Examples are Howard Dean, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Bernie Sanders. Sen. Cory Booker might be this year’s sleeper. I say this for several reasons. First, he’s the “blackest” member of the Democratic field, at least so far. Kamala Harris is only half black.

Thenow-deleted (though it is archived) FAQ section on Congresswoman Cortez’s website specifically outlines the need to “Reverse climate change by fully rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure,

Still, the Big Apple was represented by New York’s own Alicia Keys helming the festivities as the first female host in 14 years. And the big winner was country-pop star Kacey Musgraves, who brought home four gramophones, including Album of the Year for “Golden Hour.” But as always, it was mostly about the performances. Sexting is so commonplace that 88% of participants -- men and women -- in a 2015 study said they´d done it. So common that research psychologist Peggy Drexler wonders if there´s even any stigma attached to it. So common that, as we found out last week, even someone as high-profile as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said that an outlet threatened to release compromising photos of him. If it´s done in a consensual relationship,

Donald Trump in 2016 did not only run against the planted rumors of the fake Steele dossier, 90 percent negative media coverage, his own boisterous past, and the “Access Hollywood” tape. He also was campaigning against Hillary Clinton—and the nation’s quarter-century weariness with the Clinton scandals, crimes, money-grubbing, and hypocrisies. For a quarter of the country, independents especially, a vote for Trump was not a referendum on a Democrat or Republican, or even love or hate for Donald Trump, but rather reflected a “Never Hillary” desire to be done with the very name Clinton.

More than 40% of insect species are declining and a third are endangered, the analysis found. The rate of extinction is eight times faster than that of mammals, birds and reptiles. The total mass of insects is falling by a precipitous 2.5% a year, according to the best data available, suggesting they could vanish within a century. The planet is at the start of a sixth mass extinction in its history, with huge losses already

At least one newspaper says it has dropped the syndicated cartoon "Non Sequitur" after a vulgar message to President Donald Trump appeared in it. The Butler Eagle in Pennsylvania reported Sunday that the "shot at President Donald Trump" will cost cartoonist Wiley Miller "his place in the Eagle´s Sunday comics." A scribbled message in one panel of that day´s cartoon appears to begin with "We fondly say go ..." followed by the message to Trump. Ron Vodenichar, Eagle publisher and general manager, said in the paper that the paper was alerted about the message by a reader and included a syndicated comic strip.

Madrid— Thousands of Spaniards joined a right-wing rally in Madrid on Sunday to demand that Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez step down. Many in the crowd gathered in the capital’s Plaza de Colon, waving Spanish flags. They chanted slogans in favor of the nation’s security forces and for Sanchez to resign. The conservative opposition Popular Party and the center-right Citizens party organized the rally, which was also backed by the upstart far-right Vox and other marginal far-right parties. They claim that Sanchez must resign for holding talks with separatists in the northeastern region of Catalonia.
