MINNEAPOLIS — Fresh off of becoming the first Somali-American elected to Congress, Ilhan Omar said Wednesday that she´s still enjoying being known for her firsts. In 2016 the one-time refugee became the first Somali-American elected to a state legislature in the U.S. when she won a seat in the Minnesota House from Minneapolis, which has a large Somali community. Her victory Tuesday in Minnesota´s 5th District also makes her one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, along with Democrat Rashida Tlaib, who won a Detroit-area seat. "It´s wonderful. It is a great opportunity. But really

Sears Holdings is closing another 40 stores as it aims to survive Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The latest move affects 29 Sears and 11 Kmart locations. The retailer is already in the process of closing about 188 stores: 142 announced in October that will close around the end of 2018 and 46 announced in August that will close in November. Taken together, the closures are expected to leave the company with fewer than 500 locations remaining. The company has estimated it has about 400 stores that could be profitable on their own if it survives bankruptcy. Here´s the map of

Thousand Oaks, California — where a gunman killed 12 people inside a packed bar Wednesday — was ranked the third-safest city to live in in the United States this year. There are an average of 123 violent crimes per 100,000 people in the Ventura County city annually, according to Niche, a company that ranks places to live. There were just five shootings there during the past five years, according to Gun Violence Archive. Before Wednesday night, two people were killed in the 128,000-person city this year, both in shootings. “Thousand Oaks, one of the safest cities in the United States,

Over 100 provisional ballots were rejected in Miami-Dade County on Thursday after election officials said that those people showed up to vote a second time in the same election, according to a local media reporter. The news comes as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) claimed earlier in the day that the Democrats and Florida election officials with questionable records were trying to "steal" the election in Broward County, which is just north of Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade County is one of the bluest counties in the state of Florida, as nearly two-thirds of the county voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016

The Biggest Election Winner? Trump!

Here’s the raw truth about Tuesday’s election: the winners and losers. You might be surprised. Winner #1: President Trump. Liberals won’t understand this one. But they will soon…Trump pulled off a miracle. He became only the 5th incumbent president to add Senate seats in the past 105 years. He picked up new seats in Florida, Missouri, Indiana and North Dakota. Blue wave? There was no blue wave. Senate victories look more like a red wave…but not for the GOP…specifically and only for Trump. Where Trump campaigned, GOP Senate candidates won 9 of 11 races. Trump’s energy pulls the GOP train.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s supporters are clearly willing to do anything to make sure she recovers from a fall that landed her in the hospital on Thursday. After Ginsburg, who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993 by Democratic President Bill Clinton, was hospitalized with three broken ribs following a Wednesday evening fall at her office, some took to social media to jokingly offer up their own ribs to replace her fractured ones. “Where can I donate a rib, or three?” tweeted one RBG fan. “Asking for a Supreme Court justice.” “I will give Ruth Bader Ginsburg all of

According to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, whose home a mob of left-wing terrorists “protested” outside Wednesday evening, the so-called “protest” wasn’t a protest but a threat. “They weren’t protesting anything specific that I had said,” he said during a phone interview with The Washington Post the following morning. “They weren’t asking me to change anything.” “They weren’t protesting a policy or advocating for legislation. They were threatening me and my family and telling me to leave my own neighborhood in the city that I grew up in.” In other words, they were behaving like actual fascists — violent ones,

Democrats are gearing up for a titanic legal fight over what could be multiple recounts in the state of Florida - 18 years after the state´s ramshackle voting system delayed the election of President George W. Bush for 37 days. In the balance are the governor´s mansion and one U.S. Senate seat, which Republicans believed they had secured on Tuesday. Just 17,429 out of 8,165,741 votes cast in the Senate race separate the GOP´s Gov. Rick Scott, who is leading, from Sen. Bill Nelson, the Democratic incumbent. In the governor´s race, Ron DeSantis, a former GOP congressman, leads Andrew Gillum,

House Democrats have a Plan B to make sure Robert Mueller’s findings in the Russia investigation see the light of day if President Trump fires the special counsel, a report said. Democrats, who regained control of the House in Tuesday’s midterm elections, are preparing for a Saturday Night Massacre situation in which Trump fires top Justice Department officials in an attempt to quash Mueller’s investigation. In that scenario, Democratic officials told Politico, Mueller would be immediately summoned to Capitol Hill, where he would testify about his findings on national television. Rep. Look, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office sucks. It screwed up in 2000, got caught breaking the law by deleting ballots in 2016, and is in full-scale chaos right now. Oft-embattled Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes says she has no idea how many provisional and absentee ballots are left to be counted in her office. But as it stands, there is zero evidence that the Democratic Party is, in any way, trying to "steal" this election from Republicans. That sort of rhetoric erodes the public´s (admittedly low) trust in the validity of American elections.
