US Troops Drank Almost

After American troops landed in Iceland in preparation for a major NATO military exercise, locals found that their visitors drank every single beer in their capital city. According to local media reports, Navy soldiers and Marines plundered Reykjavik’s bars throughout their stay during the largest NATO military drill, named Trident Juncture, since the Cold War. Between 6,000 and 7,000 soldiers were in Iceland during the drill. Roughly 60 percent of all Icelanders live in Reykjavik and the surrounding capital region. Local reports say bar owners had to make emergency trips to suppliers in order to keep up with the demand by the

Reportedly shouting “all Jews must die,” a gunman killed 11 people and wounded six others, including four police officers, as a tragic and gruesome crime scene unfolded Saturday at a Pittsburgh synagogue. FBI special agent Bob Jones, who’s been with the FBI for 22 years, called the scene of the anti-Semitic attacks at the Tree of Life Synagogue “the most horrific crime scene I have seen.” Robert Bowers, 46, was arrested at the shooting scene after he was wounded and was charged Saturday night with 29 criminal counts. The attack illustrates the prevalence of anti-Semitism in our country.

The Catholic bishop of Memphis, Tennessee, Martin Holley, was unceremoniously kicked out this week by the Vatican. The Memphis diocese is apparently an absolute disaster, as the arrogant liberal bishop closed schools and churches and moved priests around willy-nilly. The parishioners are in open revolt, withholding donations, and I suspect the diocese is effectively bankrupt. Interestingly, the situation is so desperate, the Vatican sent in Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville to temporarily run things. Kurtz is one of the few American bishops still willing to defend traditional Church teaching.

Trump declares his first national monument,

In the first such use of his executive powers, President Trump on Friday designated a national monument, establishing a 380-acre site in Kentucky to honor African Americans’ role as soldiers during the Civil War. The move won praise from local activists and conservationists but also criticism from several environmental groups, which noted that Trump used this same authority under the 1906 Antiquities Act last year to downsize two existing national monuments in Utah. Republicans had pushed for more than a year to establish a national monument at Camp Nelson in Nicholasville, Ky.,

I am so sad. I am so heartbroken. What is happening to our country? How can we live in an America where a gunman can barge into a synagogue and open fire, reportedly screaming “All Jews must die”? How can we live in an America where someone — the FBI has arrested a Trump supporter named Cesar Sayoc — can send pipe bombs to, among others, former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), financier George Soros, former CIA director John Brennan and CNN? This is not what America is about. We are a country dedicated to freedom of speech,

The Post reports: A gunman attacked a Pittsburgh synagogue during Saturday-morning services in what the Anti-Defamation League called “likely the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the history of the United States.” The suspect opened fire inside the Tree of Life Synagogue during a baby-naming ceremony, Pennsylvania’s attorney general told the Associated Press. He was later detained and identified by law enforcement officials as Robert Bowers, 46, a man with a history of making anti-Semitic statements online. … During a standoff, the suspect spoke multiple times about wanting or needing to kill Jews,

When we think of Venezuela, we think of starving people fleeing their country without access to food, clothing, toilet paper, or medical care. We think of street urchins fighting over garbage scraps with machetes. We think of migrant exoduses from socialism. But there´s another reality about the place, and it´s not getting the attention, say, Saudi Arabia or Russia is, over the killings of dissidents. The Maduro regime is showing an alarming willingness to violently attack opposition leaders, and it´s moving in on high-profile ones who had previously seemed untouchable. They´ve already jailed politician Leopoldo Lopez

The four days that sank Megyn Kelly and sparked a vicious standoff inside NBC News began with a simple, cheery welcome to her “Today” show audience. “I have to give you a fair warning,” Ms. Kelly said as the cameras went live at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. “I’m a little fired up over Halloween costumes this morning.” By day’s end, Ms. Kelly — the former Fox News anchor whose television stardom once looked limitless — was in crisis, besieged with criticism for wondering aloud on-air why it was inappropriate for white people to dress up in blackface.

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — Looking at Brazil’s rallying stock market and stronger currency, it might seem as if Jair Bolsonaro, the right-wing presidential candidate favored by investors, had already won and the country was bouncing back from its painful recession. Mr. Bolsonaro has a substantial lead over his left-wing rival, Fernando Haddad, in Sunday’s election. But Alexandre Schwartsman, a former central bank director, and other analysts have argued that it’s not clear what voters — and investors — will get with Mr. Bolsonaro in office. His campaign platform only provides a broad outline

Most of us have heard of the midlife crisis and some may know about it first hand. Max Boot’s midlife crisis seems unusually acute. First, he abandons long-held positions. Then, he forgets how to make a coherent argument. Now, he tweets: “I enjoyed chatting with ??@StormyDaniels?? at the reception after ??@RealTimers?? tonight.” I’m not on Twitter, but was under the impression that only teenagers, narcissists, and the hopelessly starstruck put up tweets about whom they just chatted with. Boot doesn’t tell us what he and Stormy chatter about. It’s probably just as well. Here are some of the possibilities:

They didn´t" The President then continued and stressed his opinion on death penalty in wake if the synagogue shooting. "I think

When I uploaded my first video onto YouTube one year ago, I entitled it “Mom, Dad, I’m a Conservative.” It was a two-minute satirical stab at the social exiling that many Americans face when they announce their conservatism to friends and family. Soon thereafter I would discover that for black Americans, the punishment that awaits is far worse than any social exile: it is a full-court social lynching. Search the name of any prominent black conservative and peruse the words written by liberal journalists: I have been branded a self-hating black, Nazi-sympathizer and rather astonishingly — a white supremacist. The story of New York City in 2018 is a story of empty storefronts: Nearly every week, another longtime shop or eatery announces that they are closing, after years—if not decades—in business. (Latest addition: The much-loved 35-year-old Tex-Mex joint Tortilla Flats, in the West Village.) In my neighborhood of Astoria, Queens, it’s Steinway Street, a retail strip that’s now undergoing pedestrian-focused improvements to lure back visitors, because there are too many vacancies. And when new tenants do move in, their name is often Starbucks. Or Wells Fargo. The booming Big Apple has become a “capitalist paradox,”
