Barack Obama said being asked to speak at John McCain´s funeral was a ´precious and singular honor´, but joked he had worked out why he and Bush - his political opponents - had been asked. ´What a better way to get a last laugh than to get George and I to say nice things about him to a national audience,´ he said, lightening an otherwise emotional tribute. Obama and McCain were both in the race to become President in 2008, and though the democratic candidate won, the pair made headlines for how quickly they sat down after the election to

MIGRANTS from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan are carving out a new route to EU territory costing just £225. Bosnian police are stepping up patrols as thousands of migrants have already made the journey into the country via the Serbian border. From there, they head to the border with Croatia, which is a member of the EU. Up to 50 migrants were stopped by Bosnian police yesterday after they were found in a cargo train headed for Serbia. The train stopped on Friday had been carrying coal and was halted near the Bosnian border town of Zvornik on the banks

President Trump told Congress Saturday not to “interfere” with his NAFTA negotiations or he’ll cancel outright the revised free-trade deal with Mexico, an agreement that could leave out Canada. “Congress should not interfere w/ these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely & we will be far better off,” Mr. Trump tweeted. “There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out.” Mr. Trump notified Congress Friday that he was moving ahead with a U.S.-Mexico deal to replace

The litany has been repeated so often that it´s easy to recite: The walls are closing in on Donald Trump, person x or y or z is going to bring him down, it´s only a matter of time before he is caught or exposed or loses his base of support and driven from public life. The phrases sound out from our cable channels. We see them in newspaper headlines and in our Twitter timelines. This time Trump has gone too far. The end is near. Take that, Drumpf! What is forgotten is that the president has operated

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has submitted a regulatory 90-day notification to congress outlining the intent to modify the U.S. trade deal with Mexico according to mutually agreed terms. However, the Canadian trade priorities; including retention of protectionist tariffs (dairy) and non-regulatory barriers (telecom/banking); in combination with subsidies (lumber/aeronautics), make Canada joining the deal almost impossible. (Tweets)Canada is scheduled to meet with Lighthizer again on Wednesday, but it seems very doubtful the political needs for Justin Trudeau would allow any three-way agreement.

The Trump Doctrine is easiest to describe as: deploying economic leverage to achieve national security interests. The Trump Doctrine is unique and stunningly effective. Many of the geopolitical decisions have multiple facets which connect like small gears on a much larger machine. One of those small dual-purpose gears is the Doctrine as it is applied to Pakistan. The downstream moves impact China, our #1 geopolitical and economic adversary, then Russia, and also support new alliances with India and the broader Middle-east. On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Evening Edit,” Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz stated that the Trump legal team’s preparation of a counter-report to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report is good for the country, justice, and truth. Dershowitz said, “I think it’s exactly the right thing. We live in an adversarial system. The Mueller probe has only heard one side of the story. Remember, grand juries don’t invite exculpatory witnesses to come, and they only hear one side of the story, and in an adversarial system, both sides of the story have to be heard.

A federal judge ruled Friday that the DACA deportation amnesty was probably illegal when President Obama created it in 2012 — but he refused to halt the program altogether, leaving it to other courts to sort out a major legal mess. Judge Andrew S. Hanen’s ruling clashes with those of several other federal courts which said President Trump’s attempt last year to phase out the DACA program was also illegal. Taken on face, the rulings mean that the program is illegal — but so is the effort to erase it from the books.

Sen. John McCain´s passing last weekend has dominated the news, particularly cable news, over the past week. The life of the former prisoner of war and 2008 presidential candidate is certainly worthy of attention. But the respect and honesty we´re seeing from the 2018 media is a far cry from the Arizona Republican´s treatment in 2008. McCain was labeled as a racist, a get-off-my-lawn grouch with a divisive temper, someone whose health should be scrutinized because of his age. The Senate adjourned this week amid self-administered backslaps for “working hard during August” (they worked a grand total of 6.5 days) and donning self-congratulatory laurels as they praised themselves for implementing “major Republican priorities.” But for anyone paying attention, the Senate’s latest “work” session had all the characteristics of the 115th Congress: wildly exaggerated rhetoric, few actual results, a lot of excuses, and a stunning lack of urgency to accomplish anything they promised voters. Nowhere has this been more clear than in the Senate’s approach to passing spending bills.
