In a development that has largely been missed by mainstream media, the Pentagon early last month quietly declassified a Department of Defense top-secret document detailing Israel´s nuclear program, a highly covert topic that Israel has never formally announced to avoid a regional nuclear arms race, and which the US until now has respected by remaining silent. But by publishing the declassified document from 1987, the US reportedly breached the silent agreement to keep quiet on Israel´s nuclear powers for the first time ever, detailing the nuclear program in great depth. The timing of the revelation is highly suspect, given that it came

Who knew centerpieces could be the center of so much intrigue? On Monday, we reported exclusively that Laura Dowling, the White House’s chief floral designer, had left her high-profile position in a bouquet of hearsay. Was she fired? Had she quit? Nearly six weeks after her silent departure in February, the White House released a statement touting Dowling’s “lively and colorful” creations, which reflected the “historic rooms which they graced.” An hour later, Dowling herself released a statement through her attorney, emphasizing that she’d “resigned in order to pursue exciting new opportunities and explore my passion for floral artistry and

A pilot on the doomed Germanwings airliner that went down into the Alps Tuesday apparently was locked out the cockpit moments before the plane crashed, killing all 150 on board, the New York Times reported Wednesday afternoon. An investigator told the paper that evidence from a voice recorder indicated that the pilot had left the cockpit and could not re-enter. He tried knocking lightly on the door, and when there was no immediate answer, he began knocking more loudly. Finally, the source told the Times, audio on the recorder revealed: “You can hear he is trying to smash the door

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has spoken out publicly for the first time about his five-year captivity by the Taliban, hours after the U.S. Army officially charged him with desertion. CNN broke the news tonight, and Barbara Starr explained that in a lengthy document released by Bergdahl’s civilian lawyer, there is a portion of the text in Bergdahl’s own words, describing what he went through. Here’s the part Starr read aloud: “I was kept in constant isolation for the entire fire years, with little to no understanding of time… told I was going to be executed… told I would have my ears

Visitors to the White House on Tuesday saw a side of the mansion that had previously been hidden from public view. The Old Family Dining Room, once a private space for first family meals, has been refurbished by Michelle Obama in her first major attempt to leave her mark on the interior of the historic house. The dining room, used in recent decades as a staging area for State Dining Room events, has been thoroughly modernized. The works added to the room are bold, including a custom-made rug based on a 1950 weaving by Anni Albers. Most of the artists featured

Somewhere along the way, I picked up the notion that when someone announces their candidacy for the Office of President of the United States, they are announcing their intent and desire to be the president of all Americans, irrespective of race, religion or other considerations. As a result of this tradition—and while recognizing that such an announcement does, in the reality of our times, serve as the launching point for the grueling primary gauntlet most candidates will be forced to endure—the moment of tossing one’s hat into the ring has, without exception so far as I can tell, traditionally taken place

Those on a diet don´t want McDonald´s.A new report by Morgan Stanley reveals the biggest weaknesses of major restaurant chains. The bank polled customers on the reasons they would frequent the establishments less often. People were mostly likely to avoid Starbucks if they were on a budget. Those on a diet said they´d go to McDonald´s less. Customers who fled Chipotle said they did so because the food didn´t taste as good. (Snip for poll results)Survey participants indicated that food quality and customer service had gotten worse at Burger King. The report also highlights some of McDonald´s biggest issues, with many customers saying the
