When Obama voters apologize

A good friend of mine apologized to me today. You see, he voted for Barack Hussein Obama in the 2008 election and he lives in a so-called “swing state.” He told me that he had not voted for Obama in the 2012 election, but that he realized that by supporting him in 2008, he had help unleash a deadly virus onto the American scene. He simply said he was sorry. I think a good many Americans feel much the same as my good friend. They know that they were seduced by the very slick presentation that Barack Obama made in the

Mitt Romney was right about everything
in 2012. So why not Romney 2016?

Will Mitt Romney please adopt me? The Romster has been blogging about a fantastic vacation he’s taken his grandchildren on across the southwest (go there before the barbarians cover it in cable cars) and it sounds much nicer than the holidays I took as a kid. “All totaled, we hiked over 50 miles,” he writes. [Snip] But is he right to throw away a third bid so easily? Critics may laugh at the thought of “Romney 2016: the Last Stand” and journalists may cringe at the potential boredom. Yet it’s not such a dumb idea. After all, the polls show

Conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status had their applications denied by IRS bureaucrats who called them names like “crazies,” “rabid” and other words that can’t be printed in a family newspaper. The tax agency is supposed to be run by nonpartisan, career professionals, but the latest set of emails released by the House Ways and Means Committee suggest the agency is anything but. Until the scandal erupted last year, Lois G. Lerner was in charge of the IRS division overseeing tax-exempt organizations. Congressional investigators have spent months sifting through her emails — the ones that didn’t “go missing” — to find out

Michelle Obama says the ´blood of Africa´

First lady Michelle Obama embraced her family’s African roots in a speech today, telling a young audience that the ´blood of Africa´ runs through her veins as she urged changing traditional beliefs on the worth of educating women. Her husband had shied away from discussing his African heritage in his own remarks to the 500 Africans finishing a six-week Washington leadership fellowship on Monday, referencing his Kenyan father only once in the question-and-answer session. But Michelle Obama said as an African American woman, her discussion with the African youth was ´deeply personal´. ´The roots of my family tree are in

Jesse Ventura on Lawsuit Victory:

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura joined the “CBS This Morning” co-hosts Wednesday to discuss the details of his legal battle with a former U.S. sniper. On Tuesday a federal jury awarded Jesse Ventura $1.8 million in his case against Kyle’s widow. The former governor told CBS: “I’m already damaged. I can’t go to a SEAL reunion anymore. That was the one place I felt safe. I can’t go there anymore. I’ll be looking over my shoulder now wondering who’s going to come after me next. And, so don’t think I come out of this unscathed. All I wanted to do was clear my name and it has nothing to do with a widow or anything like that.

Perhaps it says something about us that our most interesting presidential candidates swear they won´t run for president. This is true of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and it´s increasingly true of Mitt Romney. As regular readers of this column know, I´ve never been much of a Romney booster. I´ve also expressed skepticism about the notion he would run again. But let´s not let "a foolish consistency" cloud our judgment. There is reason to believe that a third try wouldn´t be an absurd venture. First, in the intervening years since 2012 — and on a range of issues, not the least of which is

In Kansas City today, President Obama complained that Republicans continued to oppose his agenda in Congress. “C’mon and help out a bit,” he said, addressing the GOP. “Stop bein’ mad all the time. Stop just hatin’ all the time. C’mon, let’s get some work done together.” Obama said that he still had a lot of work to do, including spending on roads and bridges, resources for fighting wildfires, and addressing the border crisis. “I know they’re not that happy that I’m president, but that’s ok,” he added. “I’ve only got a couple years left, let’s get some work done. Then you can get
