Meat Loaf, the heavyweight rock superstar loved by millions for his “Bat Out of Hell” album and for such theatrical, dark-hearted anthems as “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” and “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” has died. He was 74.
The singer born Marvin Lee Aday died Thursday, according to a family statement posted on his official Facebook page.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight,” the statement said

Meatloaf had two of the best selling albums of all time, and was the fellow with moobs in Fight Club. He was a very creative and talented gentleman. He did very well. RIP

A helden tenor who would have excelled in opera. I think we're glad he chose the path he did.

RIP Meat Loaf, whether I was in my 20's, or 50's, when Meat Loaf came on the radio we'd all sing along at the top of our lungs, and that will continue hopefully for decades.

I forgot he was in a Monk; I need to go find that one. He played a patient in a 'House' episode, if I am not mistaken.
he had an awesome voice. Jim Steinman wrote wonderful songs for him.

He had an incredible voice, and his partnership with Jim Steinman produced some great music. He also seemed like a regular guy despite his fame. The Daily Mail has some recent (past several years) pictures of him, and he looked really frail. Condolences to his family.

I'm sorry to hear he passed away. His songs are still popular 40 years after they were made. I recall he once said a reporter addressed him as Mr. Loaf. He corrected the reporter - he preferred to be called Mr. Meat.

Too bad. My brother bought me 'Bat Out Of Hell' as a present and I became a fan. We are only on this Earth for a finite period of time, and we should make the most of it. Meatloaf did. RIP sir! You did good.
I remember hearing how his vocal cords 'froze', and his music career was over at that point. He became a family man which suited him well. IIRC, he had multiple daughters and they would bring dates home, and Meatloaf would insist on meeting them. That had to be surreal.
His hiatus from the music world probably saved his life. He was over 300 pounds while performing concerts? He would be practically passed out afterwards from all the exertion. He was fortunate that his vocal cords healed over time, and he was able to resume his music.

In the time of stage theatrics of rock bands Meatloaf's was the best. You don't have to like him but you can't deny the success and sales of his music. RIP

When Meatloaf and Jim Steinman teamed up to create the "Bat Out of Hell" album, they had that perfect chemistry that only happens once in a lifetime for so many artists. That music with that voice was so amazing.

"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" was one of my favorite songs when it came out. RIP, Meatloaf. I am sorry to hear this.
OT, though.....I will have to respectfully disagree with #26 concerning Queen. I am a huge Queen fan and Freddie Mercury was an absolute mega-star and in my opinion the greatest front man ever. He had off the charts talent and had a way of connecting with his audience in a way few other bands could.

Agree with those above praising "Bat Out Of Hell." What makes a great rock and roll song? Entirely subjective, but that one is one of the most well-crafted with all the right ingredients.

Didn't follow his music, but he was an outrageous personality, and I can admire him for that. He stood out in a sea of boring music, even today. Everyone knows who Meatloaf was. RIP big guy.

When the amazing words and music of Jim Steinman met the powerhouse vocals and persona of Meatloaf, it was magic -- a "perfect storm" of talent coming together at the right place and right time.
In 7 songs, the "Bat Out of Hell" album perfectly captured what it was like to be a red-blooded American boy living in the 1970's. And thanks to all those wonderful boys, it was so much fun being a red-blooded American girl in the 1970's!!!
RIP Meatloaf -- and thanks for the memories of a great time in life!!!!!

#26 Just wondering - which rock groups interest you? Queen and Meatloaf are miles apart. Curious to know who you really enjoy listening to. Please not classical, C&W or folk. Just rock and roll.

I don't know where to start #40. I attended 35 to 40 concerts in the 70's starting with Grand Funk Railroad, and the last concert was a reunion tour with CSNY. In between was Leon Russel, Ten Years After, YES, ELP, ZZ TOP, Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, Allman Brothers, Jeff Beck, and I know I'm leaving some huge 70's groups out because it was the 70's, and it was somewhat cloudy in the arenas during those times.

The standard of the songs from Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell album was exemplary. True classics that never age is what I call them. Ellen Foley's contribution was incomparable.

Went out to dinner this evening with Mrs Mustard Seed, and I decided to order meat loaf from the menu in his memory. The emotions were bittersweet, but the meal was fine. Meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. Two out of three ain’t bad. RIP, Mr Meat.
