President Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure package is set to be a boon for the wife of Sen. Joe Manchin III, a West Virginia Democrat and key swing vote for the White House’s agenda. Mr. Biden’s legislation, as written, greatly expands funding for the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The federal agency, which is responsible for promoting economic development in the 13 states that make up Appalachia, is led by Mr. Manchin’s wife, Gayle.
According to language included within the infrastructure bill, which was released Sunday night, the ARC is set to receive an additional billion dollars over the next four years. The new funding is set to increase

Naysayers might question why "promoting economic development" in the Appalachian region is a federal issue when the money probably is wasted on fat salaries, fancy parties, and grants to friends. FTA: "Earlier this year, the agency requested $235 million from the federal government to fund its operations. That sum was more than 30% higher than the $175 million the agency was awarded in 2020. Mr. Biden’s infrastructure bill, however, gives the ARC an additional $200 million yearly to focus on projects. In total, the ARC would receive one billion dollars of additional funding throughout the 2022-2026 fiscal years."

As the Church Lady used to say, "Well, isn't that special."
It's an early bribe (first of many) regarding the filibuster carve out.

The poster’s comment perhaps cannot be improved upon.
But the humorous element injected into the comment covers over the profound disappointment i feel. We know they steal. But to see again such blatancy as was present at obumbumcare is truly horrifying. But all the little biden creeps think it’s wonderful because “Trump was hitler.”
The human condition is not improving.

Payoffs, kickbacks and bribes. AND if your town accepts federal funding they lose they control of their zoning laws...........it goes to the feds. It gives them the right to build low income housing, multi family housing, in what zoned for single family housing.

People are not stupid and recognize a "bribe", no matter how good Manchin's wife is. I hope to God he doesn't fall for this, as that will be the end of Joe Manchin.

Who says that Biden’s handlers aren’t clever… Manchin between rock and hard spot. His wife should have turned down appointment. Otherwise he’s a Dem made man from here on out… Just for a lousy $140K job for the missus...

Well it is West Virginia. I'm surprised there is any WV pork left. "Sheets" Byrd did a pretty damned good job of moving half the federal government's operations there during his tenure in the Senate.

This was reported as 1 trillion as late as midnight last night. Now its 1.2 trillion? This is the Pierre Delecto reach around that they just voted for cloture on. How the hell did this already get inflated by 200 billion in less than 12 hours?
