San Francisco is considering a congestion pricing plan that would charge motorists for entering the busy downtown core—but only if they make more than $46,000 per year. The San Francisco County Transportation Authority is leading the city’s study on the proposal to charge a fee to any drivers who enter the downtown zone, details of which were reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. London has used a similar congestion charge scheme for nearly a decade, but it does not include an income threshold. New York City is currently considering a daily charge of $14 for motorists who enter certain parts of Manhattan.

Daily? Fourteen dollars? I don't do math but seems like that adds up to a lot monthly and $46,000 is not much thee days. Why not just shut down New York and California. Why anyone wants to live either place is beyond me.

The ELECTED officials will make sure to divert attention to the everyday severe crime, used needles and feces cover the streets, derelicts on no cash bail, etc.
Oh BTW,

I was in SFO three weeks ago and there was no congestion anywhere because Covid shut down everything there. So good luck with that.

I’ll do San Francisco a solid, alleviating the congestion problem; I’ll just simply bypass the city whenever I go north. I have seen enough of Frisco when it was still tolerable, with only one poop pile per half block.

In nyc they have caused the congestion with bike lanes narrowed streets after silly paint schemes and lines in the street. Charging a fee for that is racketeering.
The morons haven’t figured out that it will be a surcharge on everything from your food to your Amazon delivery.
What’s the difference between traffic calming and a traffic jam? A two million dollar study.

Lol! 46k is considered rich. San Francisco is just laying the groundwork for wealth confiscation. If only 46k makes one rich, people aren't entitled to anything else, and the government should have it for the 'greater good'. Its modern day feudalism where we peasants are ruled by our enlightened betters.

At least the lie-berals are being honest (which never happens).
Every time they say they are only going to raise taxes on "the rich", you now know that "the rich" are anyone making more than $46,000 to the lie-berals.
Well, at least for now. It will probably be $20,000 when they have bankrupted all the "rich" people making over $46,000...

Is there a single bridge into San Francisco that is not tolled? The tolls are extremely high already. There is always the BART. The air on that thing is almost unbreathable on somedays due to the amount of lead in the air.

46K is that household income or just that person?? How would they know are you now going to get a rich person card, this sounds stupid even for democRATs. Sounds like a business killing idea too. who's going to spend and extra $14 to go to a restaurant or a particular store.

They think 46 grand a year is wealthy? They thing 46 grand a year is wealthy in San Francisco? Maybe a hundred years ago 46 thousand a year was rich, but living or working in San Francisco today, even a hundred and forty six thousand wouldn't even qualify one as being middle class. My cousin earned more than $250 thousand a year in San Francisco, and couldn't afford a house.

The costs of administering this folly would consume much of the proceeds, which is OK because they can say that they're going to "soak the rich." City workers and politicians will be exempt, of course, and the Important People will have their fees covered by their employers as a perk, so the only people affected are the common slobs.
