Glad the driver was white. Damn! Isn't that a bizarre thought?

From the local report cited by #5:
Officers pursued the driver, identified by police as a 35-year-old local man, who hit the cyclists to the area of South 3rd Drive and West Oliver. An officer shot the suspect behind a nearby Ace Hardware store.
The suspect is also in critical condition but stable, authorities said.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Show Low Police Department, the Navajo County Sheriff's Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
I'd bet the rent money that driver was drunk.

Sad, guys riding bikes for Charity and now they are fighting for their lives, some drivers hate bikers and will try to run them off the road, I've had this happen to me twice. both times I saw them my rearview mirror and was able to jump the curb. I got one license plate and called the police, never heard what happened. Bikes have as much right to the row as a car and they must obey traffic laws (I do). I had one idiot try to tell me because I don't pay road taxes cars have the right away. I told the moron I also own 2 cars so I'm paying as much car tax as anybody else.

Those bikes look just hideous and sad to this lifelong bicyclist.
I watched a friend intentionally clipped with a pickup truck mirror and dumped into a ditch, and was threatened with violence several times.
I hope that the guy spends decades in prison if this was intentional, as it seems.
I stopped for fuel at Show Low in my Cessna years ago, but never have been there by car.

Googling "Bike the Bluff" yields the following:

#7's post is why I no longer partake in any two-wheeled fun - have done both bicycle and motorcycle. Enjoyed both immensely, for a long time. But to quote the renowned poet, Jim Morrison, People are Strange. I now swim laps in a salt pool and walk my dogs away from humans, and yet strange people are there to wreck my zen.

Some replies speak of the NYT pay wall.
I wonder why anyone would want to read anything from the New York Times. I don't and never have.

I read a local article that stated that the ride was a fundraiser for a Christian school. Also, the riders were all 55 +. I was just in Show Low last weekend. There are a lot more people than I have ever seen there before but there is almost no traffic in the early morning. This is a popular vacation spot to get away from the heat.
