One of the top advisers to Donald Trump during the pandemic has suggested that she wanted him to lose the 2020 election, according to a new book. Dr Deborah Birx dropped the hint at a meeting with Minnesota officials in August 2020 according to Andy Slavitt, a former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In a new book, Preventable, written by Slavitt, he recounts asking Dr Birx if she would want to continue her service should Joe Biden win the election. 'At one point, after a brief pause, she looked me in the eye and said, 'I hope the election turns out a certain way,'' Slavitt wrote.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a major border security plan on Thursday that involves building its own barriers along the Mexico border and arresting illegal immigrants who enter the state.
The new comprehensive plan to stamp out illegal border crossings in Texas was announced at a Border Security Summit in Del Rio, attended by Texas law enforcement, county judges, mayors, district attorneys, and landowners.

Top cops say they fear that the US could be hit by a horrific summer of mass shootings—with four states alone witnessing gun atrocities within the last 24 hours. My colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell reported earlier on a mass shooting in Austin, Texas, late Friday night.
Fourteen people were wounded, with at least two critically-injured during a shooting in downtown Austin.
Two men are suspected of being involved in the shooting, according to the initial reports; although the police later said the number was unclear, but there was a description of one of the suspect.
But it’s what the Austin American-Statesman said about that suspect that is causing a lot of talk today.
