Congressman Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) says his honeymoon in Dubai was more important than showing up to vote against trashy bills orchestrated by Democrats in the U.S. House.“If I have a choice between voting with Nancy Pelosi or spending time with my beautiful wife, I’ll chose Cristina every time,” newlywed Cawthorn declared. On Real America’s Voice News, the lawmaker responded to media reports that he has the worst voting record in the first-term class, missing 16.2 percent of votes among that cohort on the floor of the chamber, which is under narrow, but effective, control of the Democrats, and where the minority party — unlike in the Senate —

I would give him bit of a break, but I still believe if you run for office and win, THAT is your Job. You can't just walk away and not show up. There a TON of Breaks (Easter Break, Summer Break, Christmas Break) from the House Schedule when Madison and Cristina could have planned their wedding and Honeymoon. Call me Old Fashioned, but that's what I would have done.

Love Representative Cawthorn, but he's wrong on this. He is there to represent people in his district. The people he represents need a voice! Yes, it's miserable to serve in the minority and this term has absolutely disastrous bills. Reply #2 had it right. You can schedule your personal life around the DC schedule. The only excuse should be a family funeral or serious illness.

Get rid of this guy make sure he can celebrate all his anniversaries with his 'wife'. If this is not the first time then the guy just shows up at the playground to just play. Fire bad employees.

He is wrong. Job comes first, especially if you are paid by the taxpayers. I hired a real jerk once who informed me after hiring that he had a honeymoon scheduled for the second week of his employment. He pulled a few more stunts like that and I had to fire him before his first year was up because he didn't work when he was in the office either. I had to coordinate with HR to get everything documented properly because he was of the preferred race.

Another so-called conservative republican who has now been fully infected with Washington Swamp Fever. His job is to attend every single session, vote, and to be conducting himself as a Patriotic Warrior waging unceasing war against the totalitarian take over of our Republic by the communist death democrats.
He needs to be booted out of office. His justification for abandoning his post in time of war is sickening. Gutless, Lazy, Traitor.
We need Patriotic warriors in Congress not whipped wimps like this lying clown.
By the way who in hell would Honeymoon in Dubai which is governed by oil rich muslims? Hmmmm. Wonder who paid for this trip.

Why give this guy a break? He has one job to do - represent his district, of which voting on bills is a key component. He was a Congressman before he was married. And to trek to Dubai for a honeymoon...good grief. Niagara Falls isn't good enough? There was nowhere in North Carolina? This guy deserves every bit of dripping scorn he gets.

Hmm. Honeymoon in Dubai - well, it is early summer and the humidity is on the upswing so I guess the dry heat of Dubai will do.

When Cawthern was running for office, I did a lot of reading about him. I was concerned he was a bit unreliable and immature. He needs someone older older to sit him down and get him straightened out. As a Congressman, the last thing he is is overworked. I have friends who kids have been and are interns on the Hill. He should have gotten his rear back to work and voted.
His response was silly and he owes his constituents an apology.

Then quit your job and return your salary if you aren't going to do your job!!! It's that simple!!! You love your wife, but you work for me. And I don't like wasting my tax dollars to support your welfare lifestyle (which I believe is what you call it when you get paid by the government to not work).
We all love our spouses. But if I have a job, I have to do that job, or I get fired. It sounds like Rep. Cawthorn doesn't quite grasp that concept!!!

Granted, weddings are special and everything, but..... Congress has breaks / recess for every holiday real and imaginable, summer recess for months, and breaks for just about everything else. Plan big events like weddings during one of your many scheduled days off. Maybe this was scheduled before Cawthorn was elected in November but it could have easily been rescheduled.

I thought Pelosi was still allowing proxy voting due to Covid. Couldn't Cawthorn have taken a few seconds from his honeymoon and sent in his proxy vote while voting times were open? Couldn't his staff should have been able to handle this for him?

I was very impressed with Cawtorn. Now, not so much. Already legally married, he and his wife could have planned their religious wedding and honeymoon for a time when Congress was not in session. He should tend to business. Voting NO on Nancy’s “garbage” is part of his business. His retort is lame.

My guess is....he expected Our Guy Trump to win and then everything would have fallen into place. As it happened, he chose to have a civil ceremony, then the wedding, then the trip to Dubai. He's still wrong on the issue, no matter who is in the White House. He was elected to represent his district. He didn't do it.
