Daunte Wright, the 20-year-old black man fatally shot during a traffic stop in Minnesota, was “afraid police would do something like this to him,” his former mentor said—as his parents refused to accept it was an “accident.”
Jonathan Mason, a youth development specialist who became close with Wright when he was a student at Edison High School in Minneapolis, said he, Wright and other young black men often talked about how to handle interactions with cops.(Snip) “We talked about this daily. We talked about police brutality. We talk about these things in the black community.

He couldn't be too afraid of the cops otherwise he wouldn't have resisted. Logic 101.

Did they talk daily about breaking the law, outstanding warrants and resisting arrest too? Or just about police brutality?

He was afraid of being arrested, but not afraid of committing crimes. Pretty much the attitude of too many black youths.

From an article dated today - "Court records show Wright was being sought after failing to appear in court on charges that he fled from officers and possessed a gun without a permit during an encounter with Minneapolis police in June. In that case, a statement of probable cause said police got a call about a man waving a gun who was later identified as Wright."
And his disciples would say, hee aintz dun nuffin.

The number of people who get shot for not resisting arrest hovers around zero.

Because he was a criminal and had warrants out for him, because he had already broken the law?
So, he attacks the police.....which any person with half a brain will know, are likely to shoot you, especially a female officer.
Life is all about choices....and death can be, too. Bad choice to be a criminal, worse choice to attack a police officer.

Multiple reports would have one believe he was shot for having an air freshener in his car. No mention of any outstanding warrant or criminal history.

Hmm. I keep my license plates up to date, driver's license current, and insurance in force. And 90% or more of the time I obey all traffic laws, occasionally stretching the speed limit a bit on an interstate, but not around town. Somehow I never get stopped by the police.

#8, the "air freshener" story is a lie. They stopped him for expired license plate. ANYONE with an expired tag will get pulled over. Count on it.

The body language of Wright and Officer Potter in the body cam was very revealing. Wright was being cuffed and was not struggling with the large black officer that was affecting the arrest. Only when the female Officer Potter came over and began assisting did Wright's attitude suddenly change. Was he indignant at being arrested by a woman which he considered humiliating? Did Potter show some gesture of weakness that triggered Wright to suddenly become resistive and get back in the car? Did Officer Potter realize she was losing control of the suspect and her training kicked in, along with personal fear, that she was not being respected by the aggressive male suspect?
These split second moments in people's lives demonstrate how much of our behavior is conditioned by deep feelings and memories that suddenly cause us to act without really being aware of the consequences. The point of training is to recondition the mind against such bad decisions but in this case it wasn't enough to prevent this tragedy.

Who murdered Ashli Babbit?
When will HE resign and be prosecuted? Sorry, shooting a white person and shooting a black person should be treated the same.
If the creep who killed Ashli Babbitt walks away, so should the officer who shot this thug. Ashli Babbitt had no warrants, did no crimes, POSSIBLY was trespassing in a public building when she was shot down by an unknown murderer. We are told that it was "an officer", but have no name, there is no accountability.
Same treatment for the officer in Minnesota as for the "officer" in the Capitol.

How much was it Floyd’s family got from death by cop? May become a trend. See the video, this was accidental. The LEO panicked. However, when I am pulled over, both my hands are on the wheel and it’s yes sir and no sir. We are in serious times. If you’re a cop in one of these blue cities, I recommend getting out of Dodge. Bottom line, there is an outlaw subculture that is pushing the enforcement of law and order.

It seems like you didn't.

Stopped for expired plates, not air fresheners. (!) The officers found there was a warrant out for him. Non-appearange in court Here’s what that was about:
Court records indicate that a judge issued a warrant for Mr. Wright earlier this month after he missed a court appearance. He was facing two misdemeanor charges after the Minneapolis police said he had carried a pistol without a permit and had run from officers last June.

And here’s a photo that shows a different Daunte than the baby-faced kid being publicized (remember Trayvon in his kindergarten graduation robe?)

The man who shot Kate Stienle and this police officer both claim they didn't mean to shoot their victim.
The jury in the Stienle case found the shooter INNOCENT of any and all wrongdoing!
In fact, No One was found to have "caused her death."
The gun must have acted alone.
In this case, the jury will not be so quick to accept the spontaneous declaration of the officer who shot Wright.
I'll take bets.

Yeah, this kid had a future all right--with that rap sheet? But what made that officer panic so that she drew her pistol instead of the taser? She was right to resign. I expect manslaughter charges to be brought against her. And why do THESE PEOPLE loot stores and cause destruction in these cases in the name of protests. That's rioting, not protesting, and those people should be prosecuted.

So he was afraid police would do something like this to him. Yet all he had to do as he was told. He was being arrested, he resisted, tried to escape and a horrible accident occured that cost him his life. Sadly he put himself in a bad situation. Now, its the cops fault, not his for resisting. And as usual its all about race. Sickening.....

I am a white female. When I was learning to drive, my daddy told me to keep my hands on the steering wheel and be very polite if I was ever pulled over by the police.
I have been on several occasions, I followed that advice, and everything turned out perfectly fine.
Of course, I am also a law-abiding citizen without any outstanding warrants, so if a cop pulls me over, I know it's because probably did something wrong at that moment. So I would never have a reason to run, or resist, or be obstinate.
In the last week, two cops were shot here in Texas by the bad guys. Where is all the national news about that?!?!?!?

So, the warrant was for illegally carrying a gun. This would make the officers expect trouble.
He made a really serious error attacking the police. The officer made another serious error, grabbing the wrong 'weapon'.
Two errors stacked on top of each other.

When you are a piece of garbage like this twit was; you should be afraid of getting shot by a cop. Maybe you shouldn't be so stupid as to put your self in a position for it to happen.

I don't much care about Duante. If he obeyed the speed limit, and didn't assault police officers, he would have done better for himself. Duante chose his fate, and I don't miss him.

I taught my boys to respect and to be afraid of the police in certain situations. Years ago my younger son was stopped on the street by a cop who asked to search his pockets. There was no obvious reason for a search and it was likely an illegal search but he remembered the advise I had given him. The cop found nothing but change and apologized to my son. When he came home to tell Dad and me what happened, Dad asked: "Were you wearing that doo rag on your head?" There were a few more words out of Mother's earshot but the doo rag disappeared.

Well Daunte knew that he had warrants out for his arrest involving an attempted robbery, and for carrying an illegal gun, and also knew that the existance of those warrants would be communicated to the police officers who stopped him, and obviously did not want to go to jail. So Daunte after being stopped by the police refused to comply with instructions to him from the police, and violently resisted arrest.
If Daunte had complied with the instructions of the police and did not resist arrest, chances are Daunte would have appeared before a liberal Judge who would have immediately released Daunte back out of on the streets. So what did Daunte gain by being noncompliant with police instructions and resisting arrest,p? Really nothing and instead lost his life.

"Just your average 20-year old..."
"A good kid..."
With a warrant out for his arrest for a serious crime.
If indeed his "mentor" was giving this fellow the skinny years ago, it is apparent the young man failed to heed the lesson.
That all said...the officer was at least negligent in her actions. It may not have been her intention to gun him...but she did. My sympathy meter isn't in the green for her, either.

Not committing crimes and otherwise not giving the police a reason to pull you over evidently is out of the question in the bLACK Community, as it's conceded that they need to commit crimes and fight with the police. Maybe Abe Lincoln, who in 1865 suggested exporting them all to some fertile country with a good climate, which they could have to themselves, was right after all.
