Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby says the city will no longer prosecute for prostitution, drug possession and other low-level offenses.
Mosby made the announcement on Friday following her office's one-year experiment in not prosecuting minor offenses to decrease the spread of Covid-19 behind bars.
"Today, America's war on drug users is over in the city of Baltimore. We leave behind the era of tough-on-crime prosecution and zero tolerance policing and no longer default to the status quo to criminalize mostly people of color for addiction, said Mosby in an official press release. The experiment, known as The Covid Criminal Justice Policies

Can it be - - can it possibly be - - that I agree with the vicious, lunatic, racist Mosby?
Well, yes - - yes i do. I've been railing against the 50-year-old, feckless, unconstitutional "War On Drugs" for about - - oh, fifty years. So I'm all in on total legalization. And prostitution is disgusting and morally repugnant - - but it's also none of the government's business - - if it's voluntary.
So, yeah - - right on, Mosby!

With all this talk about White people being "systemically racist," if I read between the lines on what Black politicians are saying with the refusing to prosecute crime and vehemently denouncing very reasonable voting laws, are they are really saying that their Black brothers and sisters are "systemically criminal" and too stupid to get a picture I.D.? That they must be "excused" for doing what comes naturally?
What ever happened to expecting the best from everyone and holding them accountable for their actions?

Will this cut down on criminal activity? Nope. Absolutely not. They have made a safe haven for criminals. The criminal element of society will flock there because nobody will arrest them. It will be open season. Crime will continue to rise in Baltimore. Businesses will close. Law abiding citizens will leave because jobs have left, and for safety reasons as well. Baltimore will be a bankrupt wasteland.
What will be the response of the 'leaders' of Baltimore? All those businesses and people that left are racist. Whatever. Its irrelevant. People and businesses flee lawlessness.

The soft bigotry of low expectations. The inner-city culture needs to change. Otherwise, by supporting dereliction, you will get more of it. Let's see what city steps up next to lower bar even further?

Marilyn Mosby is an incompetent DA. Until she is removed from office and someone competent replaces her, Baltimore will always remain a sh#thole.

In a sense this does reduce crime because citizens stop reporting the crimes since law enforcement will no longer do anything. Pimps and crack dealers will now have free reign in the city.

There goes the need for DARE, LEOs, drug free school zones, lower property values, higher crime rates, more drug addicted homeless persons and streets as clean as San Francisco. But we at least addressed racism or something.

My libertarian principles take on a shabby look when applied much too late and in an environment already already ruined by decades of corruption and criminality.
However....vice must not be conflated with crime.
Elsewise we have church ⛪ police. The police 🚔 are so intimate with the Hos and the Pushas that they have little interest in the hard work of Law Enforcement.

If Baltimore was not already on my list of cities to Never Visit Again, it would be now. Mosby, who ostensibly has studied for the necessary degree, does not grasp the fact that drug possession and prostitution are merely the visible indications of far more serious crime just below the surface, murder, human trafficking, illegal immigrant activity in lieu of a job, rape, theft, robbery, gang banging - and did I mention murder? She is crowing about her progressive moves, just wait until the real statistics catch up with her.

Maybe they should take that Fencing from D.C. and take it to Baltimore. Fence in the City and let them have at it!! If I owned a Retail Business, grocery, Bar/Restaurant or clothing store, I would board it up and leave that city in a heartbeat! They're not even pretending that they will protect anyone against those who RULE that city! BLM! Yes they do! If they move into your city you will see how fast they matter!

In a Constructional Republic the electorate chooses its Representatives, who vote to change laws, and elect an executive to either sign or veto the changes in law that reflect the will of the electorate. In a Socialist Dictatorship Mosby don’t need no stinking legislation! Remember when all of the USA was a Constitutional Republic? Ahhh the good ol’ days.

Her husband is also president of the city council and both are under investigation by a federal grand jury and the city IG (a Hispanic). Misuse of campaign funds, unpaid federal taxes, ownership of companies that exist in name only, purchase of two properties in Florida for $1M+ while her campaign foots the bill for her legal expenses, questionable overseas trips paid for by non-profits, excessive absences from her job - everything you'd expect of urban democrat politicians. Their lawyer and the naacp, of course, see nothing but a witch hunt and "biased treatment of african-american leaders."
As for the halt to prosecutions, there's a reason the locals refer to Charm City as "Crime City."

I was nearly 20 years late to The Wire, but watched it earlier this year. There was Baltimore police captain who, on his own, decided not only that the low level offenses that Mosby is talking about but also drug selling should not be subject to arrest, but it all had to take place in a specific area of abandoned houses to move it away from residents. It worked well for a while until someone let the news media know about it and well, you can guess the rest. Mosby's plan is kind of like life imitating art, except the crimes she is ignoring, like prostitution and public urination and defecation, will make the quality of life in the city even worse. She needs to go full on Hamsterdam (what the free-zone was nicknamed) and get the criminals away from schools, churches and peoples' homes.

#24, I have visited the Inner Harbor several times, once to see the USS Constellation, an 1800s USN sailing warship and take the tour and another day to tour the USS Torsk, a WW2 submarine.
I wouldn't even consider doing that today. Even 17 or so years ago, as soon as you got a block or two from the Inner Harbor tourist area, you were clearly in a dangerous zone and needed to keep your speed up and hit the interstate ASAP and head away, in our case, back to rural Virginia.

Prostitution could be the result of human trafficking and the sex-slave industry that extends around the world. The same is true in drug possession wherein street hustlers never carry more than a minor amount on them at a give time for this very reason, but can quickly walk a customer to a larger stash for a deal. All in all it boils down to one philosophy - "Broken Glass." The police departments are so hamstrung with laws and regulations AND cutbacks that they cannot do their jobs.
Major cities will be the first to burn down in the coming "woke-pocalypse."

Whether she likes these laws or not, her job is to prosecute people that break the law there in Baltimore.
If she is publicly saying that she refuses to do her job, she should be removed.

A way to stop illegal immigration immediately: just advertise that all illegal immigrants will immediately be shipped to Baltimore with no chance of living anywhere else in the country. Nothing in their home country could be worse than what is going on in Baltimore. Baltimore's murder rate is higher than the murder rate in the "Triangle Countries" that many of the illegals are coming from.
