The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has executed a search warrant for data from the "black box" from the SUV Tiger Woods was driving when it crashed last week, CBS News has confirmed. The story was first reported by USA Today. Department spokesperson Deputy James Nagao didn't say more about the investigation of the rollover crash in which the golf legend suffered serious injuries to his lower leg, ankle and foot that required lengthy emergency surgery. To get a warrant for the black box, USA Today pointed out, investigators have to determine there is probable cause that a crime was

The amnesia may well be very real, but, if he was driving way over the speed limits, he may not want to remember any of that.
Aren't modern "spy cars" wonderful?

The day will come when your vehicle will report you to DMV for your speed and emissions. The first will be a $50 fine. The latter will be $500.

#2 - my concern is that my SUV will turn me in to the DHS for talking about insurrection and sedition (as they interpret it).

USA Today is wrong. CBS is wrong.
I believe the National Highway Safety Act, or some such law, would call for an investigation, absent a crime.
There could be a design flaw, or engineering error, in the overpriced Genesis. And the DOT, now a rainbow led organization, would want to know.

The local report I heard is that he fell asleep. Brakes weren't applied until after the initial jarring.

You must be older than me even.
The day is approaching when your vehicle will not LET you drive.
And will report you to the DMV if you even try.. But we'll all be SAFE.

If you run the numbers - he left Terranea Resort about 7AM, angry at having been delayed by another car’s being loaded with luggage, almost hit the director of his TV gig, was seen speeding off. By 7:12 AM he was rolled up against the base of a hill. 6.3 miles from Terranea to there. Do the math. He was going at least 70-75 on that stretch, IMHO. Maybe more… His car travelled 500-700 feet (depending upon report) from where he hit the sign and jumped the divider to where he ended up. There were no skid marks.

The original reports right after the accident said he'd been speeding, but that disappeared when the media remembered he's Tiger Woods and black.

Re that local report, a person who is agitated and angry and speeds out of a parking lot does not go to sleep in fewer than 6.3 miles. Speeding, he lost it. There were no skidmarks. He was more apt to have flown and rolled.

In California two requirements must be met for a search warrant: the judge must reasonably believe (1) that a misdemeanor or felony has been committed, and (2) that evidence of that criminal case is likely to be found in the place(s) described in the search warrant.
That misdemeanor may be no more than failure to properly control a motor vehicle, or even run-of-the-mill speeding. The black box doesn't measure blood alcohol.

This Woods news is getting more stale and uninteresting by the day.

Who owns - well, OWNED - that SUV? If it was his, does he have different rights than if it was rented?

Soon these "black boxes" will report your mileage to the appropriate tax authorities so you can be taxed for how far you've driven.

The good part is no one else was injured. Whatever happened, he is paying for it in pain and more loss of income. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Maybe there's a good reason he does not remember anything.
