For years, progressive politicians and groups have tried to prove the more effective conservative groups are just fronts for monied interests and corporate America. They’ve alleged time and again, without proof that the National Rifle Association the nation’s largest mass membership civil rights group is merely a tool of the firearms industry. Or that certain research and advocacy groups that question climate change at any level are beholden to the oil companies and are doing their bidding in exchange for contributions.(Snip)A report recently compiled on the AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, provides a golden opportunity to go on offense. Thanks to its millions of members, the group

I've known for years (since Obamacare was first forced into law) that AARP was not acting in the best interests of America's senior citizens. AARP endorsed Obamacare which was deliberately designed to end the principal Medicare supplement insurance program that was more advantageous to participants, replacing it with a poorer one. In other words, AARP took the side of its advertisers, rather than the side of seniors. (One of the consequences of the change, was that reimbursement rates to physicians is now low to the point that many physicians stand to lose money each time they treat a Medicare patient, and thus many doctors, particularly specialists, are relucant to accept seniors as patients.)

I never joined .During Obamacare they revealed their true stripes.Just like the AMA they are leftist organizations. Their insurance choices are the most expensive to retired persons.

When I was 22 they spent a year trying to get me to sign up. Now that I'm eligible I never hear from them. Obviously a very well run outfit.

AARP is a racket.
Their publications and magazines RARELY IF EVER showcase or promote conservatives.
Not that everything they do is to provide a rump view of society, but there is an alternative in AMAC which offers most of the same 'benefits' of membership without taking a one-sided view. Check them out at www.amac.us

I dropped my membership when they supported Obamacare - when they should have been opposing it. Felt the same disappointment back then in the big health insurance companies and big pharma when they "rolled over" for Obama. Afraid of being called racists for opposing it, their wimpy behavior (like AARP) showed what they were made of.

The best thing to do when you receive mail from AARP is to mail back all the paper contents minus your name having their organization pay postage. AMAC is the NEW choice!

AARP sure isn't alone in pushing a Leftist agenda under the guise of another motive or supposed news. There are two major newspapers in our locale and we receive 3 local ones, and they are either PURE LEFT or sneak in news/ editorials that are riddled with Left leaning LIES. No different than many National media outlets.

It's all about pushing insurance whether it's AARP or MOAA (Military Officers Association od America, formerly TROA), or any other seniors associations. Once hooked on the group rates, their publications subtlety or not so subtlety promote left leaning opinions to the members.
Add to #9, local news TV is anything but. The majority of program time is feeder news from the national parent network. You're lucky to get 10 minutes of local weather, sports, or pet adoption stories in one hour of national level propaganda.

While I wasn't going to retire for another ten years, I paid close attention to AARP's love of obozocare. I never joined, and never will unless there is a radical change in AARP's leadership that doesn't represent the dempcraps.

When the black AARP leadership climbed into bed with the crooked Kenyan I knew for sure that their motives were socialist and meant to fill their own coffers. Most seniors have not yet caught on but they will. I never went beyond using their membership card for lodging discounts but never bought any of their products. How can you get good rates by going through two middlemen? Obamacare was the worst deal in the civilized world and they pushed it like it was a discount to Disney World.

#8, I was doing that for years, but I cut up all of the paper before putting it back into the envelope. About 5 years ago, they finally got the message and quit sending anything to me. Never been a member.

They oppose the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This makes them un American. Seniors need the right to bear arms for protection more than any others. AARP wants to outlaw gun ownership so only outlaws have guns.

Back in the late 90s, I mentioned to my father-in-law about AARP's leftist tilt. He had Medicare supplement from them. He and his wife (God rest their souls) had high medical bills, responded with a smile "I'm destroying them from the inside."

I always sent anything they sent me back to them, with conservative counter-information scrawled all over it. They don’t send me anything anymore. I agree with above posters; Association of Mature American Citizens is the way to go. Side note: Didn’t the “C” in AMAC used to stand for conservatives?

I have always known that AARP was a leftist insurance scam. ALL AARP mailings used to be jammed back into their postage paid envelope and sent back to them at their expense. They eventually slowed down the junk mail fraud onslaught.
I despise AARP.

I cancelled my membership to AARP when they featured AntiAmerican Harry Belafonte on their Magazine!
That was many years ago. Since then AARP is no more than a Heath Insurance Broker!

The only advantage of AARP was the motel discount. But AAA members get the same discount plus other services that are actually worth while for us older folks. I doubt I will ever change a flat again.
Also, most motels offer the same discount just based on age alone.

Many , many years ago..I got a Long Term Care Policy thru AARP.. it is from Metropolitan Life. it is only $75 a month and they can't raise it..but, I wanted to cancel my AARP membership. I was told if I did it would cancel my Met Life policy..I was never able to actually find out if that was true..but decided not to risk it for $16 membership fee per year.I am also a member of AMAC...

I can't stand the communist eerp. When I retired they sent me a letter and wanted to know how my Company threw me out and forced me to retire with nothing.
They are liberal trouble makers.

AARP is a liar from way back. I have known people whose parents told them to "be sure to sign up for AARP"
First, they are not an insurance company, yet seniors are convinced they have AARP insurance. No other organization would legally be allowed such leeway.
When Obola was pushing "heath care for all" AARP asked millions for their sad stories about healthcare and lack of insurance. I was one of those outraged when they stood side by side with Obola.
They can go bankrupt for all I care.
