President Donald Trump has instructed aides to prepare for steep budget cuts if he wins a second term in the White House, according to a new report. Trump and his advisers believe he will be better positioned to crack down on the federal deficit, which has swelled to a projected $1 trillion for the current fiscal year, five people briefed on the discussions told the Washington Post. Trump has reportedly not instructed aides as to how sweeping he wants future budget cuts in his second term to be, or exactly what would be cut. It's also not clear whether he would consider cutting Medicare,

I can’t wait until the interest service cost of the federal debt equals 50% of the federal budget. I would say we are about15 years from that tipping point. It will be about the same time Social Security and Medicare are completely bankrupt.
If Democrats get in full control of the WH and Congress it will happen faster than a speeding debt ceiling increase.

I like the idea of spending cuts, but how will he justify it and the same he's asking for money to go to the moon?

I'd support elimination of the Department of Education, that would save a few billion a year. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, force feed the fat man, then put him on a diet. Any "massive cuts" will be merely a few bucks shaved from the more massive agency requests, except by DOD and DHS. This stuff fuels the booming economy...until it ends. Boob bait.

This is total fake news. Massive? Really? Did you ask Trump? Trump gives press interviews everyday, but you did not ask him, did you? Fake news.

While I will vote (again) for Trump in 2020, some of his promises are just that, empty promises. In 2016, Candidate Trump promised to start reducing the national debt, then nearly $19 trillion. It’s now nearly $22 trillion and growing. Trump also spoke about draining the Swamp, yet the Swamp is as wet as ever. And, the oft repeated promise to “Lock Her Up” has grown very stale, with not a single Obama law breaker indicted 31 months in his presidency. That Trump’s latest AG is stil looking for the “predicate” for the coup against the President is embarrassing to be kind. Finally, watch the gasoline pumps’ announcements of “15% ethanol”for proof that Trump’s deregulation efforts have their political limits.
So let’s re-elect Trump because he has proven to be a very good president while his opponents are deceitful idiots at best and dangerous at worse.

All budgets start in the U.S. Congress. At least they are supposed to. They have not drawn up and voted on a budget for years. The only thing to be voted on is Continuing Resolutions and new Spending Bills.

#8 - Congress depends on a number of sources, including the executive branch, i.e. the President, which offers a draft budget each year, that is invariably denounced as DOA. The story indicates these massive cuts will come in PDT's second term, when he becomes a lame duck. Fake news?
BTW: You can look up the 2020 proposal at the WhiteHouse.gov site. The site notes, "On Monday, March 11, White House Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Russ Vought will release the President’s Fiscal Year 2020 Budget of the United States Government. 'A Budget for a Better America: Promises Kept. Taxpayers First.'"

Too bad he can't steeply cut congressional salaries along with the budget cuts.

while I understand the cynicism, I think he is making the cuts himself by cutting the size of the bureaucracies. Also, which bureaucracy is being moved out west?

The Dept. of Energy should have been gone years ago, and the EPA and Education could go with it. I'm not sure we need the Federal Reserve, for that matter.
