When former President Donald Trump welcomes potential running mates to Mar-a-Lago this weekend a dark horse could emerge as a favorite.
One-time frontrunner, South Dakota governor Kristi Noem, is all but out of contention following revelations she shot dead her 14-month-old dog Cricket.
Other candidates - including U.S. Senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and J.D. Vance; and congresswoman Elise Stefanik - are also set to attend. But whispers are circulating about a lesser-known Republican who 18 months ago was little heard of outside his remote home state.

Charlie and you DM drones, you must be smoking some wacky tobaccy. Just because Burgum has a good-looking spouse, this won't get him there, Chuck. Look it, just go back and focus on your own screwed-up political culture in the UK. You got more problems to report on in the UK than you have time to report on here.

I only say this because we need to know what happens after Trump.

One of my favorite memes on FB is of Annie Oakley saying "I ain't afraid to love man. I ain't afraid of shootin' him either."
If it's a bad dog, it needs to be dealt with. Seems to me Noem has more.... of the necessary package than a lot of the wimps we vote for.

A cabinet post for sure but not veep. JD Vance is my pick and if I were DJT I’d tell him to crisscross WI, MI, and PA every single day. Trump may need win only one of those three states to secure 270 EV.

DM hates trump with a burning, leftist passion.....so take all articles related to Trump with a huge dose of "they hate him" bias in mind. I never heard of the governor of ND, along with probably 349 million other Americans.
I still think that Governor Sanders of Arkansas would be a good VP, and has a real possibility in the '28 race.
Frankly, most Senators aren't great material for the executive branch. Senators actually run NOTHING, ever, just perfumed princes who do the 'talking head' routine. Governors....successful ones....have actual executive experience. And while the whiny suburban mom types may just wet their drawers over putting down a dog, I don't see it as relevant. But in politics suburban moms, no matter how irrational, do vote.
There are occasionally times when I wonder if the 19th Amendment was a huge error. Certainly, there are millions of intelligent, rational, sensible women voters, but sadly, huge numbers are emotional, dependent seekers of a replacement daddy in government, and entirely uncaring of issues related to the basic existence of the country as a free republic. And I have a number of friends, many for may years whose voting is as illogical and ill considered as the rest of their lives.

His wife will always be struggling with her multiple addictions. She can only hope for remission and no guarantee of "recovery". Stay in North Dakota, Mr. Burgum.

Spiering is a right wing journalist who just wrote a book on Kamala.
"Journalist Charlie Spiering is out today with a new book that paints a less-than-flattering picture of Vice President Kamala Harris. In “Amateur Hour: Kamala Harris in the White House Washington,” Spiering claims Harris’ is causing tension in the Biden administration and that the real reason Joe Biden decided to run for a second term is because “Kamala is not up to the job.”"

Just my random thoughts on Gov Noem.
1) it’s a matter of semantics, but I wish her dog had been “put down” rather than “killed.”
2) she has had minor rumors before. A bit too much baggage for my taste.

For those who mistakenly believe that all authors at DM are Brits:
Charlie Spiering began his career as a political journalist fifteen years ago as a reporter for Washington Post columnist Robert D. Novak. He was a political writer for the Washington Examiner before moving to Breitbart News as a White House correspondent covering the Obama Administration, the Trump Administration, and the Biden Administration. He lives in Virginia with his wife and six children.

Normally one wants to pick a Veep that will bring in lots of electoral votes if he/she carries their home state. Both Dakotas are in the safe for GOP column and don't have lots of electoral votes. I know whoever (whomever?) President Trump picks it will surprise me. I'd never heard of Mike Pense. Vivek would be my choice. He's smart as a whip, a great debater, and since he's not white he can't be credibly called a White Racist.

Re #8. that brush is too broad but not unexpected. In my long experience, women have been the analytical voters rather than men who tended to be drivebys who believe they already know everything.

Curious that liberals concurred when confirmed pacifist Atticus Finch stepped up and killed a dangerous dog. Of course, AC was kind of a liberal. And a lawyer, so OK.

The issue with Noem is not that she put down a dangerous dog, she says, but that she’s so very tone-deaf that she thought her first version of it should have been a check in the win column for her. Makes me question her judgment. That and a long-time affair. Not looking for perfection, but her baggage is a heavy lift. I’d be really surprised if there’s anyone in the country who would vote Trump because of her. Wouldn’t have thought that 3 years ago, but she brings nothing now.

Another name came up in conversation this week that hasn't been mentioned or considered. I am curious what my fellow Lucianner's reaction would be to Condeleeza Rice as a VP choice?

Don't shortchange Doug Burgum. He's a serious guy with serious qualifications.
He's not a camera-friendly guy, kinda like Lincoln in that regard.

I don't care if Noem killed her dog or "put it down", I don't like her and don't want her as VP. She's too fake, not just her appearance (I know, snarky but true), I find her conservative values to be a bit of a show too. Plus, the media would easily turn her into Sarah Palin 2.0

Both of the Dakotas are solid Red, therefore their governors bring nothing of value to the ticket.

Noem certainly granted the leftwing lunatics a gift by being honest about killing a dog that killed a neighbors chickens. Out here in the country if your dog bothers someone elses stuff, that dog has to be put down. Same as old timers who used to hunt to put food on their table, and a dog would not hunt, BANG!!
